The last country of our trip...and full of more exciting adventures! We had originally planned on visiting Canaima & Angel Falls, but we had some bank account issue so we couldn't go. We also planned on hiking Mt. Roraima, but we were getting tired at the end of our trip and opted for more beach time instead. Being the end of our trip and short on money, we also realized we couldn't afford to go to Los Roques! Instead we spent half our time in Merida for one last taste of the Andes mountains, and the other half relaxing on the beautiful beaches of Morrocoy National Park and doing some scuba diving.
Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 2:41PM Sure enough, we soon encountered a part of the road that had a big waterfall streaming down onto it, with large rocks pummelling down from the cliff and piling up on the road. Hector said we should try to drive past it right now because in five minutes we won’t be able to cross.
Monday, September 4, 2006 at 11:25PM The canyoning was ½ hour drive up the valley, and then another ½ hour walk to the start, where we began descending the valley in the river. That means walking in the river, rappelling down the waterfalls, jumping off boulders into the pools of water below, and sliding down natural water slides.
Monday, September 4, 2006 at 11:27PM A&T have a video camera with them and they decided that they would make a video collage of both all the old cars in Venezuela and the “big butts” that are unattractively squeezed into super-tight jeans – they were hilariously getting footage. We are looking forward to seeing the finished product!
Monday, September 4, 2006 at 11:31PM We also went to the other dive shop, Submatur, to ask about their dive trips. We were immediately more impressed with the professionalism of this shop compared to Amigos del Mar, which was a tiny little hole in the wall with an unfriendly attendant. We also liked the owner of Submatur, a Guyanese man named Mike who had been living in Venezuela for 50 years and has been diving since the 70’s. We liked listening to him recount some of his old diving stories and he spoke very good English. We signed up to do two dives with him tomorrow.
