Aguas Calientes...Still...(June 21, 2006)

The original intent was for Phil, Kat and Jess to go up to MP for the sunrise and spend the morning up there, and then catch the train at 1:20 to go to Ollantaytambo for a night. Unfortunately, PeruRail decided that they would go on strike today, so all the trains were cancelled, and we were told the strike could last anywhere from one to three days. We kept going back to the train station to check for updates, discussed alternatives to the train (i.e. walking seven hours to Ollanta or three hours back to Santa Theresa and trying to catch a bus from there). In the end there was one train that went around 5:00, but only people who had existing tickets could get on it. We hadn’t bought our tickets yet, so we were out of luck. So we were stuck in AC for at least one more night. Later in the evening, the lady at the hostel called the train station and found out that the trains were going to be running on the 22nd, so we were happy.
In the meantime, Jessica, Kat and I went to the hot springs in the afternoon while the boys watched Argentina vs. Netherlands. The hot springs were nice and relaxing and eased our muscles, although they weren’t nearly as nice as the ones we went to in Santa Theresa. We all went for dinner at the vegetarian restaurant (Govinda), and it was pretty good. Early to bed again because Lincoln and I were going to the train station early to try and buy tickets for tomorrow.
