Our first stop will be Buenos Aires, Argentina to visit Lincoln's brother Adam and his girlfriend Andrea. We'll spend about a week in Buenos Aires, then head northeast to Puerto Iguazu for a couple of days to see some of the world's most spectacular waterfalls. Next will be a very long bus ride to get to Salta, which is in the northwest part of Argentina. We'll spend a few days in and around Salta, and then travel to San Pedro de Atacama, in the Atacama desert of Northern Chile. We plan to return to Argentina again some day (for Adam & Andrea's wedding perhaps?), so we are saving the other parts of the country for a future visit...
Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 2:28PM It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since we were married on the beautiful beach in Jamaica . It’s gone by so fast! But here we are in Buenos Aires and are looking forward to celebrating it.
Sunday, May 7, 2006 at 4:19PM This neighbourhood is in one of the seedier areas of Buenos Aires , and also the home of the Boca Juniors, but the area we walked around is a touristy section with colourful houses, caricature statues, an artists market, and outdoor cafes.
Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 9:15PM The park provides a little train to take people around, and we hopped on it and went straight for the Garganta del Diablo (devil’s throat), the biggest and strongest waterfall in the park. There is a walkway about a kilometre long to get out to it, across the top of the river before it plunges below. It was awesome!
Friday, May 12, 2006 at 6:29PM The park in the square is beautiful, with big leafy trees and great Spanish colonial building surrounding it. Salta is known for its wonderful climate, and today was certainly a great testament to it. It was a gorgeous sunny day, the temperature around 25 during the day, and cool at night.
Sunday, May 14, 2006 at 10:46PM Tilcara has a population of about 3000 people, and reminded us of a Mexican pueblo. It is also 2461m above sea level, so we’re getting up there in altitude. The homes are built with mud bricks or stone, the streets are cobbled and dusty, there are stray dogs running around, adorable small children with runny noses, and the occasional person dressed in traditional Quechua clothing. We love it!
